The collection has been open to the public since 1909, with more than 8,500 m² of exhibition space now available. Highlights of the museum, that is located next to the Film museum in the Carlstadt district, are ancient and pre-Columbian ceramics, rare stoneware vessels, Islamic ceramics, an extensive collection of valuable porcelain and an Asia department which was redesigned in 2018.
